We understand that financial planning often involves couples working together. However, there are several important reasons why partners can't open or directly manage brokerage accounts through their partner access:
1. Mirror Access: Partner access is designed as a "view-only" feature. It provides visibility into the main account but doesn't grant full account privileges. This ensures transparency while maintaining account security.
2. Individual Ownership: Our current brokerage accounts are individual accounts, not joint accounts. This means all assets and transactions are legally owned and controlled by the main account holder.
3. Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Allowing a partner to trade or make changes in an account they don't legally own could violate financial regulations and potentially create legal issues.
4. Identity Verification: For security and compliance reasons, we require individual identity verification for anyone opening or managing a brokerage account.
5. Liability Protection: Limiting account management to the verified owner helps protect both parties from potential disputes or misunderstandings about account activity.
We're continuously working to improve our services. While we don't currently support joint brokerage accounts, we are considering it for future updates to our platform.
If you and your partner both want to actively manage investments, we recommend each opening an individual Origin account. This allows you both to have full control over your respective brokerage accounts while still being able to view each other's financial picture through partner access.
